Do you want to use a popular Bittorent client to download from Bittorent websites? Basically, Torrent works better than P2P, which requires a full file to share, with no incentive to do so. This results in super slow speeds. Bittorent, on the other hand, works instantly. You download parts of the file, and share it with others, improving the network health, as you download files quicker than ever.
Steps
1. Search Google and Download a Popular Bittorent client. Here are some user favorites: BitLord, BitComet, Azureus, BiTtornado, or uTorrent. Only one is necessary.
2. Install a protective program to keep snoops such as the RIAA and MPAA out. Highly recommended is Peer Guardian. This is like a firewall except a bit more extensive protection when using p2p programs.
3. Search for torrent sites, and download a .torrent file. Open it, and your bittorent program should automatically parse you where to save and initiate your download. Choose a path and start downloading your file!
Tips
* Get your terminology in order.
o The leecher is a person who only downloads and doesn't upload.
o Seeder - This term are what results in completing a download, and "seeding" the file for other people (including leechers) to download.
o Tracker - This is the overlord, and every torrent website has one. It keeps track of all the seeders and leechers, and all other activity.
o Torrent File - Usually, this is a small file you download that gives instructions to your Bittorent Client that you downloaded in step one.
* You should always share close to your total upload speed, which you could set in your bittorent programs options.
* When downloading a file, a Torrent with a high number of seeds and leechers will result in a faster download.
* A Torrent without any seeds but a high number of leechers coulld mean your download can finish, but without a seed, the whole file might not exist.
* Many web sites which host torrent files are public but some are private. Private sites are usually geared towards one particular topic such as Music Only or Movies Only, etc. Private sites require an invite from a registered member to join. Check forums and IRC Chat rooms where people who are interested in that particular topic your interested in may hang out. Don't scream out "Does anyone have any invites". Pretend you're fishing .. be peoples friend and then slip in "err.. I was wondering by any chance if you have an invite you could spare..."
* Private sites require you to share what you upload. This is called your ratio. The best ratios are ones where you upload more than you download. If you have a bad ratio you will get banned from that site.
